Hey Samuel!
I found Viva X-88 to be the best electric piano you can buy at
444E. I bought it for 499E. I am from Romania, which is quite
a poor country (like 100E sallary / month)
(
So I couldn't afford anything expensive. So I found Viscount -
which I didn't know anything about. their site
http://www.viscountus.com
shows what kind of pianos they make. And I found out that Viscount
actually makes pianos for 140 years now, and have had some
projects even with Steinway & Sons. (wow!)
So now they make digital pianos. the Viva X 88 is the second one.
The first one has only 76 keys and no hammer action. but the
second one - the X 88, has hammermechanic, which is fairly good.
It is a bit lighter than a grandpiano, but it does the job (for
444euro)!
I am a jazz pianist, and I really needed a portable piano so I can
play gigs and stuff, I use a laptop, an external soundcard, and VST
Instruments,
so I really don't play with the sounds in the keyboard.
About the sounds, they are pretty good, the grandpiano is nice. but the
e-piano is kinda poor. There's also some good strings and atmo pads,
and guitars
and basses. They don't sound like Roland and Korg, but what can you
expect
at this price. The only thing that I really enjoy is the hammer-action
of
the keyboard. It's really close to the P90! A friend of mine had one
and I didn't feel much difference.
So, if you want to buy something fairly good, for an unbelievable
price,
go for the Viva X 88. If you want something excellent, go for anything
else
that rises over 1,000 euro. that's my advice to you.
Cheers!
Nice talking to you!
Sebastian.

Oh sorry, I got cought up in talking and didn't mention anything about
the
MIDI. The keyboard has 3 MIDI sockets, IN / OUT / THRU.
I only use the OUT to control VST in my laptop.
The manual of the keyboard says it has only 4 levels of intensity in
the keys.
But it's wrong! I made a visual test in Cubase to see what kind of
piano - forte and I can make while playing. And the numbers are:
pianissimo: 16
pianissimo: 32
piano: 64
mezzo forte: 78
forte: 96
fortissimo 127
and of course, in between these numbers. So you actually don't really
feel like you have only some levels of velocity.
And this is great when playing.
Another thing, the keyboard can set the keys and response to be
LINIAR, LIGHT, HEAVY and EXTRA-HEAVY. I like to play on extra-heavy,
because I can make really nice pianissimos and when I want forte, I
have to "Bang" on it just like on a grandpiano.
So playing MIDI is very nice, and of course differs with every VST you
play with.
Hope this helps a bit.
Cheers!
