"Hi Javier,
Thank you for your request.
There are some minor differences between the very first Speaker Simulator and the subsequent PDI03. First, the resistive part of the load was realized with only three parallel wired resistors on an aluminium plate as a heat sink and got really hot when driven hard. An extruded heat sink with more efficient heat dissipation and four parallel-wired resistors replaced this. In early times we had only the main components on a pc board, pots, sockets and switches were hardwired. This is also true for some early PDI 03's.
When we started, we used a 1K log. taper potentiometer for volume. Unfortunately the tolerance was so large, that customers with two units complained about the different settings to get the same loudness. Later models of the PDI03 therefore have a 10K linear taper pot that is converted to a logarithmic behavior with a 1K resistor. The first simulators had a two position bass-switch only, later PDI03's used a three position switch with an intermediate position. The sound shaping filter was never changed.
Kind Regards
Robin
