I've been tinkering with a design concept lately, for an analogue polysynth that would combine ease-of-use with flexibility to get an intuitive but powerful instrument.
It would be based on a pair of 3340 VCOs and 2 separate Moffatt multimode filters, to get a sound ranging from warm and fat to raw and crisp.
A lot of focus would be on stepless morphing of things like waveshapes and filter modes, and even arpeggiator patterns.
The main feature would be the 'Morpher' itself, a joystick that can do anything from fading between oscillators and filters (for a kind of vector synthesis) to morphing between 4 groups of any of the 175+ destinations. It would also have a recording feature to make it really easy to create complex XYZ-axis envelopes, and a loop function for turning it into an incredibly flexible LFO.
I believe it would end up being an inspiring synth with a very fluid and organic character and a lot of hands-on control. (I even included a BNC connector for a Theremin-style CV-generating antenna for those who would want to take it old-school.)
I'm calling it the PolyMorph 16, and it would be great to hear what you all think of it. See design sketches for details.
P.S. Just to be clear: this is not an official Behringer design - just my imagination running wild...
